Dementia absolutely sucks the life out of the person suffering and the one caring the long goodbye was the longest goodbye of my life and the effects after are absolutely as brutal as before I made a promise and i promise nobody suffers like we did I miss you all terribly and I’m so sorry dementia done this to us all. I’m so scared for my future and my children grief sucks the only relief you get is to know loved ones are not suffering anymore

All the residents who I have known and cared for in my job as Care Assistant who have battled this dreadful disease.

I have worked as a care assistant for almost ten years and have looked after many residents who have had a diagnosis of dementia. It is a terrible, cruel disease which turns a person’s life upside down and also affects their loved ones and their ability to enjoy life in the way that they used to.

I am walking in memory of my dad, Michael Lindsay. He was so strong and bravely fought both cancer and dementia. We shared a special bond and it was heartbreaking to see him suffer. My dad loved music, especially Elvis, and would respond to it right up until the end. He also taught me to appreciate birds they bring me comfort now. I love and miss him every day.
